Animation
Ungrounded
short animation for The Batsford Prize 2024, main theme is "Gravity".
gravity supports the balance of material bodies, symbolises stability and structure physical existence as we know it. this animation explores the opposite of this, detachment from reality, uncertainty and lack of control. the concept is based on the universal idioms found in many languages, for example, "both feet on the ground" - the soil under your feet is a symbol of confidence, grounding, and awareness of actions, while its absence expresses a more chaotic and disturbing emotion. the animation is made in the stop-motion technique to explore the mechanism of social anxiety. an attempt to take socially acceptable action ends in failure, the protagonist closes in himself, seeing the triumph of the unconscious, and then observes the appearance of the censor himself, Superego.
"Is that really You?"
animation about alienating experience of dementia, vulnerability both of caretaker and patient. this disease has many symptoms, but we still do not understand what exactly a person with dementia feels, whether it is painful or scary. in the book "Hearing Voice of people with Dementia" Malcolm Goldsmith mentions that many patients, despite their fading brain, are aware of what is happening to them. and it seems to me that there is nothing more terrible than this. but on the other hand, it gives hope that there is still someone there. "is that really you?" - the question reflects the fear of being seen in a helpless state by someone who knew you in a healthier times.
